@KM: We have indeed renamed the Add-ins that were created by VSTO to simply 'VSTO Add-ins' so that the term would be distinct, yet familiar to users. These are indeed supported and in fact, we've recently updated them to support Office 2016. The power and flexibility of VSTO Add-ins has the trade-off that it will only run in the Windows Desktop version of Office which may be the right choice given your scenario.
